Giacomo Cusmano was born in Palermo on March 15, 1834.
Graduated in Medicine in 1855, is revealed as the "Doctor of the Poor."
Feeling strongly the call of God, surrender to the brilliant career started, to devote himself entirely to God and the Poor. On December 22, 1860 he was ordained priest and on February 21, 1867, founded the Association of "Bite of the the Poor", which has as its goal to "spread the faith through love." On May 23, 1880 he founded the "Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Poor" in 1887 and that of the "Missionaries of the Poor Servants".
His life is dedicated to serving the poor, the sick, the abandoned and for those who had need. "There are none, then are our" repeated continuously. They called him the "Father of the poor" even though he loved to call the "Servant of the Poor." There wasn't poor who did not receive his help, support and comfort. Giacomo Cusmano lived for God and the Poor, with the intent to lead them into the kingdom of heaven.
The exercise of charity was to be half to lead everyone, rich and poor, to the faith. His commitment was fueled by the conviction that "what is one of the brethren you do to God." In this Case Giacomo Cusmano recognized God in the face of the Poor .
On March 14, 1888 died in odor of sanctity.
John Paul II beatify Giacomo Cusmano in October 30, 1983.
